Dick Nolan, Best Of, Sony/BMG.

Dick Nolan was apparently a Maritime sensation in the early ‘70s–he and his band released a fistful of albums for RCA, his first few selling well into the hundreds of thousands alone. That puts Nolan into Stompin’ Tom or Corb Lund territory–regional hero with outsized record sales. He also trod the same musical terrain as they do, setting most of his Newfoundland themed songs to a basic country/folk stomp. It’s aged pretty damn well, actually–check out the poker faced "The Fella That Looked Like Me" or his wry paean to isolation, "Thank God We’re Surrounded By Water."
