Memories of Johnny Cash (Cabot)

Newfoundland Herald: Aug. 28 - Sep. 3, 2005

Sounds of Fall
by Kevin Kelly

Dick Nolan has spent half a century singing the songs of his homeland and Atlantic Canada, and he's been rewarded from a Juno Award to selling a million albums over the years.   Now, Nolan has released Memories of Johnny Cash, a collection of some of Nolan's earlier recordings of the legendary songwriter from the 1950s and '60s.   The sound of the album suffers slightly because of that but makes the recording more authentic on tunes like Ring of Fire and Give My Love To Rose.   Nolan's voice is eerily similar to Cash's, and it's an excellent "made in Newfoundland" tribute to the country legend.   It's also great to see this collection of Cash tunes by Nolan escape vinyl oblivion.   Let's hope it continues.
